BOOKMOBILE project
BOOKMOBILE project
Most people know I love trailers, and so do these guys.
"Now in its third year, projet MOBILIVRE-BOOKMOBILE project is an annual touring exhibition of artist books, zines, and independent publications. Traveling by way of a vintage Airstream, the BOOKMOBILE visits a variety of venues in Canada and the US including community centers, schools, libraries, festivals and artist-run centers. A group of coordinators traveling with the exhibition facilitate a series of workshops, artist talks, and educational forums. The project has exposed thousands of visitors to a unique collection of independently produced book works."
This public space project is a nice mixture of visual pop-culture cues, artistic interest and community outreach. Driving around North America, this project stops at all kinds of venues, including Philadelphia's Space 1026 gallery.
Interestingly, this project has been inspired by books themselves, and not so much by the mobiles. The connections to other moblies such as Nils Norman's projects or Atelier Van Lieshout projects are apparent, yet this project remains authentic to the original inspiration.
Right now they are on their Canadian leg of the tour, having passed through NY in May and Providence in May 26th. Check their site for future visits to your town!
