Street Memes Walking Tour & Scavenger Hunt
October 16, 2004

Walking tours depart at 1:00, 3:00 and 5:00pm

540 W. 21st Street (between 10th & 11th Aves) NYC

On Saturday, October 16, discover a world of viral street art that
grows and spreads all around us. Street memes are stickers, stencils,
posters and other visual memes (self-replicating ideas) that are
posted, copied, mutated and posted again in the streets of New York
and around the world. During Fall For Chelsea's one-day-only community
arts festival, join Eyebeam for the Street Memes Walking Tours and
Scavenger Hunt.

Tours will start at Eyebeam with a brief explanation and discussion by
StreetMemes.com editor Ryan Watkin-Hughes and Eyebeam R&D Director
Jonah Peretti. Then explore the streets of Chelsea and the Meat
Packing District, identifying and discussing various art works,
allowing the scavenger hunters to document the images they find. Bring
your digital cameras or camera phones in order to upload pics to the
StreetMemes web database, www.streetmemes.com, which tracks the
global evolution of these viral art forms. Prizes will be awarded for
the participants who find the most memes, the newest meme and from a
drawing of those who locate all the images pictured on the Street
Memes Scavenger Hunt card. (Cameras aren't necessary to participate in
the Scavenger Hunt.)

The Street Memes booth will be open at Eyebeam from 12:00-6:00pm to
find out more about the project, download images, pick up Scavenger
Hunt cards to play on your own and participate in wheat pasting demos.

This event is open to the public free of charge. For more details
