i want to be a moblog star

launch project >>

project description: www.ctrl.tv a moblog about soap operas in the near future. actors take photos (stopframes from the stream of their own lives) by mobile phone and send them just after the capture. Those images are stored in an always growing database and displayed using a radio userland blog. we are working on the next thing (take a look here) developing our own software and working hard on concept.

software used in the project: Radio Userland

contributor: ctrl.it

biography: ctrl.it is a domain brand. marketing , nothing else. we work online. our censorship machine and the @i-love-jemma-gura.org emails exchange game are showed in the Rhizome artbase as net.art pieces. we are part of the international neen movement. we are featured as emerging artists at Java Museum. etcetera. but we are not interested in art itself. we make money not art.

For marshall McLuhan, the role of the artist was to be at the avant-garde of the exploration of the new mediums, revealing by their actions what the mediums were actually meant to become. So curators seems to belive we make art only because we try to anticipate the psychic and social consequences of the next technology, trying to conceptualize good products to sell before our commercial competitors do. Zer021 is the brand we use when we have something to sell.

when i showed this brief biography to nikola tosic he told : very cheesy. cheesy is being dressed as 80s rapper now and thinking its cool. ctrl is cheesy. when i showed this brief biography to andrej waldegg he told : hm dont think its cheesy, it is rather trendy. like linking to marshall mcluhan and neen. ctrl is trendy. then when i showed this brief biography to miltos manetas he told : I think it's very nice! I correct some spelling mistakes.ctrl is very nice. and we believe there are no borderlines between online and offline.

Playing Grounds

launch project >>

project description: This project is exploring the idea of choreography as an interactive public process. At this web site users will comment on the process of creating choreography through the use of a blog. To show the creation process the site will contain video of rehearsals, journals of the dancers who are in the piece, and explanations of that day's work. The audience will be able to comment on the work in progress and through the user feedback the choreography will be changed, shaped, and polished. Every other rehearsal will focus on the internet feedback and the public view of the work. The audience becomes the choreographer, making a dance piece created for the public by the public.

software used in the project: Movable Type

contributor: Kate Sicchio

biography: Kate Sicchio is currently studying at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She is creating her own cirriculum combing the dance and multimedia majors. She is expected to graduate with her BFA in May 2004.

Rethinking Wargames Activate

launch project >>

cat_alt_chess2.gifproject description: The rethinking wargames blog is a participatory net art project. The primary aim of this project is to create an online game dedicated to 'changing the game'; reworking chess to reflect social values and structures more appropriate and reflective of the urgent needs and nature of our contemporary global community.

Those with a talent for strategic thinking, are invited to contribute to the reevaluation of an evidently inhumane, anachronistic and violent system of human institutions, mirrored on the chessboard.

software used in the project: At the moment I'm using the blog software at Journalscape.com. However as the project progresses I'll be working with Flash server sockets, php and mysql as.

contributor: Ruth Catlow

biography: Ruth is an Internet artist and co founder and director of furtherfield.org with Marc Garrett. She works with people, digital and network media, sculpture, writing, music and drawing; in the streets & other public spaces and on the Internet.

The work usually connects with specific (often unsuspecting) groups of people in a distinct condition or environment i.e. on their way to work, doing the shopping, taking the kids to school, playing games etc. Or they intersect strangely with dominant and pre-established entertainment genres in the mass media such as games or pornography on the web.

Ruth is currently Associate Senior lecturer in Constructed and Virtual Environments at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, UK.

other comments: "I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who could contribute to a solution to this problem...so please email me. No ideas are too extraordinary to be considered. It may be, that in your view, the problem is unsolvable in which case I would still like to hear from you about why this is."
